Open Invitation- Paris Original Watercolor Painting by Lotus MacDowell, Artworks WV.
Balconies are usually found in areas where buildings have been constructed with no green areas. This was very common 100 to 300 years ago or more, but the way people would bring the beauty of nature to their home was to have a profusion of plants and flowers on their balconies. It gave them a sense of having nature right there to enjoy even though they were right in the city. It also softened the harshness of the stone, brick, and stucco surfaces, adding a delightful amount of color to offset the buildings. In this painting it’s almost impossible to see the decorative work of the balcony but the plants have a vivid mixture of greens and purples and enhance the metallic washes on the building facade. The open door makes it feel like there is more to the story: as if the resident might just invite us in for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Intriguing.

This original watercolor has been framed with a top mat of rice paper with a gold sheen and a soft toffee color liner mat. The wood frame is a beautiful distressed finish bronze toned metallic finish with etched lines in it. All framing materials are conservation quality including Museum Glass, which protects the painting from anything the environment can throw at it and eliminates any reflection so that it looks like the piece has no glass on it whatsoever.
