According to Lotus, this was a commission for a woman who was retiring from the school staff. She had loved her job and wanted a memory of it. The building, however, was lacking in any sort of architectural detail, but Lotus liked the way the sunlight filtered down by the front door, so this was the scene she chose to paint. The brickwork looks so warm and inviting almost making you forget it's a school.
