According to Lotus, these apples were from a farm where buckwheat flour was made. It was in October:  the trees were still green and the fruit had vivid colors. The background was done using Saran Wrap crumpled on the paint to create the illusion of leaves without the detail, so the eye stays focused on the fruit. The Saran Wrap is removed when the paint is dry and it leaves a shiny finish on the surface.

Wow- there are SOOO many ways to frame this limited edition piece! The soft teals in the background are lovely as a double mat- the top one can be a soft teal with a deeper teal liner mat underneath.  Or you can add a thin line of red as the liner color to draw out the magnificent colors in the apples.
